Mtec was founded in 1998, under the name ChampionChip Minnesota. In 2010, ChampionChip Minnesota's name was changed to Mtec to encompass the greater variety of services that the company offers.

Mtec offers innovative timing and scoring solutions for competitive athletic events world-wide. Mtec utilizes RFID technology with options for ChampionChip, Mylaps Bibtag, AMB or Chronotrack timing technology.

Mtec provides timing and scoring solutions for over 100 national and international events each year. Events include Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, Grandma’s Marathon, Reggae Marathon (Negril, JA), Columbus Marathon, Shawnee Mission Triathlon, Northshore Inline Marathon, Mora Vassaloppet, Minneapolis Duathalon, Get In Gear and the Monster Dash.

Since 1998 Mtec has also provided timing support for Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon and the New York Marathon.
